Yard of Concrete
Yard of concrete is a unit of measure used in determining the amount of concrete that will be used. This is the product of
the length, width, and depth of the structure, which is going to be poured. Twenty-seven cubic feet is considered one
cubic yard of concrete
Jitterbug
Jitter Bug is a tool, which is used in concrete work to push the gravel down and bring the cream of the concrete to the top.
This tool is used by standing it vertically upright and bringing the device up and down as the individual walks backward
across the foundation. This motion pushes the gravel down and forces concrete cream to the top.
Form Block
Form block is a concrete block used as a top block or row of blocks in a concrete foundation. The form block is cut out at
the top corner. This allows the concrete to pour down into the block and have the top of the block to be used as support
for a screed.
Foundation Block
Foundation block are also called CMU for concrete masonry units. The specifications can also specify whether to use light
weight or heavy blocks. Most residential jobs use light weight blocks. The blocks most commonly used are 4 inch, 8 inch, or
12 inch. There are also special blocks for particular situations. These might be half highs, half block, knockout lintel blocks,
form blocks, open bottom lintel blocks, stand up lintel blocks, etc.
Lintel Block
Lintel Block is normally an upper or sometimes lower course of blocks which is used to place rebar and then eventually
pour concrete in order to increase the strength of a concrete wall.

Trowel Finish
Trowel Finish is a term that describes a type of finished concrete surface. This type of finish is normally smooth and free of
any blemishes or depressions that would later become a problem for finished flooring.
Weight BearingWeight bearing refers to walls or footings that will have a permanent load placed on them.
Fill Dirt
Fill dirt is any loose dirt normally brought in from another location to fill a foundation, behind a retaining wall or any void that
might be needed on a construction site.
Poly
Poly is a term used to refer to polyethylene or visqueen which is normally put down in a foundation to act as a moisture
barrier in the slab.
Compaction
Compaction refers to the act of compacting soil to a specified density. Normally under foundations this would be value of
95% compaction. This can be accomplished by using big drum compactors or plate compactors.
