Crown
Crown refers to the bow or deflection in a piece of lumber.  
Normally in ceiling joints or rafters there could be at least a
quarter-inch crown or deflection in the piece of lumber. It is
important to always make sure that this crown is in an upward
direction when used as center joist or rafters.
Top Plate
Top Plate refers to the uppermost horizontal members of a
wall.  Normally, there are two top plates.
Sheathing
Sheathing is a term used to refer to the outermost sheathing
on exterior walls.  This normally can be OSB plywood or some
sort of insulation board.
Toe
rafters the pointed end of the rafter cut is called the toe. This
will pertain to any angular cut
Rough Opening
Rough Opening is a term, which refers to the actual rough
opening of a door or window.  This opening is very important in
order to make sure that the insulation of doors and windows
are done properly
Look Outs
Look Outs are horizontal members projecting out that are used
to hold up other horizontal members such as sub-facia or
barge rafters.
Soffit
Soffit refers to the horizontal overhang on the roof of a house.
